[TRANS] CD Data July Issue (Full Interview)

DBSK Pictures, Images and Photos

YC: Mm, although this song does not sound like usual summer pieces, but it does bring about the kind of loneliness you feel on a summer night.

YH: Till now, there are a lot of songs similar to “Sky” and “Summer Dream” that have a carefree summer feeling. Although on the surface, the song “DouNUMBER 2e kimi wo suki ni natte shimattan darou? (Why did I like you?)” that was released last year and “Stand by You” which will be released this year do not have this carefree feeling but we want to let everyone experience a summer day full of meaning and show everyone that we have matured.

- Instead of using a slow melody, you guys have used a medium tempo to bring out the feelings effectively.

YH: Yeps, the advantages of a medium tempo is that it is able to adequately bring out the feelings in the song, even more matured than the lyrics of “DouNUMBER 2e kimi wo suki ni natte shimattan darou? (Why did I like you?)”.. It is very suitable for a “Summer Rain” song.

CM: Although “Summer Rain” is not a very dark song however, it does make others feel that there is very little unfocused light.

JJ: Wah! Wah! Changmin-ah! You actually know these kind of feelings? (Eyes Changmin suspiciously)

- If Jaejoong is going to continue being like that, I will explode in laughter. (Laughs)

JS: Eukyangkyang! He is going to start telling the story behind his first kiss again. (Laughs)

YC: Yes! Yes! (Laugh) During one of the performances, Changmin introduced the song and said, “I hope the lyrics can make everyone’s shout can be resonated around the venue!” As Jaejoong was teasing Changmin then, he countered that by saying his first love story (laugh) in order to not lose to Changmin (laugh).

CM: It’s real! (Laugh) It makes me seem like I’m older! (Laugh) Also when I was singing “when the phone rings, how I hope that it would be you, that’s how I live my life everyday~” (T/N: From Stand By U) This part is very real and I believe that a lot of us can imagine this as well. Although the lyrics of the song are descibing about what happens after a break-up, but if you still love that person, you’d still think of the person and would always hope that he/she calls you. As almost everyone has gone through this phase, when I sing this, I would usually be very emotional.

JS: Yeah.. (Sighs) It is indeed a very splendid song.. (Starts singing)

YC: You can feel the time flow and everything that happened through this song. So long as you still love the person, you would have this kind of feeling, no matter the season or time.

JS: The song “Taxi” is a song about loving a girl that is already attached although it uses an “unable to face reality” kind of remorse to perform. However, the song “Stand by You” is a song about the feelings towards a lover who has left and the fact that they are “unable to meet”; it is very sad. That is the difference between the songs.. Ah~ It’s still very sad~. During concerts, I would always feel like crying when I sing these two songs. No matter which song, it shows the hurt that an emotional boy would feel so my heart would always seem like it is being dragged down by sadness..

YC: “The hurt that an emotional boy would feel”.. Junsu.. So cool~~

JJ: I think that the part “Only when I’m beside you would I be able to see the bright light although it is impossible to repeat those happy moments” is the part that hurts most.

JS: Yeah yeah yeah! I think that the part “no matter what happens, no matter what I lose, I will never forget that I loved you once” is the part that hurts most.

CM: Junsu-ah! Jaejoong is answering, please endure abit. (Laughs)

YC: (comforts Junsu) (T/N: OOO, YooSu love much??)

JJ: I feel that the feeling is similar to the case of the male lead being in darkness all the time, unable to see light and that he cannot leave the happy memories behind and in this darkness shows the memories of him and his ex-lover…

CM: The male lead, from my point of view, is one who when reminiscing the past, is determined that he will find hope and continue his life. Although the melody is soft and gentle, but the feeling is similar to that of being in darkness and only able to see a small ray of light.. Just like to black and yellow, it’s that kind of feeling.

YC: I think that the feeling of this song differs from individuals and their current situation. Although sometimes a dark past would appear in my mind, but like the male lead, I would want find the light, a small ray of hope. As I am a very emotional person and cry alot, I can easily cry when just reminiscing a small fragment of a sad memory. The deeper the hurt/cut goes, the heavier the memory is but sometimes I think it’s a blessing.

- Yoochun’s meaning is indeed very deep ^^
JS: (falls into his own world again and starts singing) ah~ ah~ it’s still very sad.

- In the PV, we spot DBSK with black and white suits.. is there any special meaning behind it?
YH: There is actually no particular meaning for the suits. I personally think that one would have gone through alot of different situations. Usually one would want to go on with their life with full concentration but sometimes we stumble onto situations which question on our determination… The filming location of this PV was in a church at Gunma Prefecture and since there are 2 PVs this time (drama version and DBSK version), everyone can take their time and enjoy them.

- The couple tune “Tea for Two” is indeed a song full of happiness and bliss

CM: Mm, yes. I feel that this song is sang by the main lead of “Stand by You” during his happy times in the past.

YC: I think it’s the opposite! “Stand by You” was the past and “Tea for Two” is the present. A couple that broke up realizes that they cannot live without each other and returns together, just like the past, HAPPY ENDING!

YH: I think the same way too!

YC: See~? Love is like that, constantly repeating itself.

JJ: My opinions are rather different from the others.. The male lead in “Stand by You” had never forgotten the past and when he remembers it alone, the song “Tea for Two” plays.. So “Tea for Two” is just like a dream that he had!

- Everyone’s opinions are indeed very meaningful~ So what about you, Junsu? You seem to like songs that give out an “unfulfilled love” kind of meaning, such as “Beautiful You” and “Taxi”. These kinda songs are very naive and suits Junsu. (Laugh)

JS: Does that refer to a lover that would still make food for me to eat? (Laugh) Mm.. not bad not bad (Shy) It is very ideal.

- What if the food isn’t very nice to eat?

JS: Oh~ This is the first time I’m being asked these sort of questions~ (Laugh) Even if it is not very nice, I’d still finish up everything and say that it is very delicious. As compared to taste, the fact that the food was made with a sincere heart makes me happier. Because the song is a very sad and full of hurt, the male lead would still endure the taste of it and finish it up, right?

YH: Yeah. I would also pretend that it is very nice and finish everything and then secretly drink water. (Laugh)

YC: How can it be not nice!! It is made by a person whom you love dearly, of course it would be nice! Even if it is “delicious”, you must still say it out!

JJ: I think so too.

JS: You see, guys are always very kind. However, I think differently from all of you.. I think that “Stand by U”, “Tea for Two” and “Why Did I Like You” tells a story in chronogical order.

YH: “Why Did I Like You”, your lover gets married in the end.. it’s too sad.

JS: On a summer night, if you listened to these 3, one after another, you’d definitely cry. Ah~ Ah~

JJ: Because it’s too sad.. (Laugh)

CM: In the end… it’s still sad..

- In the song “Tea for Two”, the feeling of bliss can be felt just through the vocals. It has a gentle, caring sound to it, and each member sang for quite a long period but it is still very smooth.

YH: Yeah. We usually perform it with a happy and gentle mood~ so that you can hear it just from the vocals. Even before the song, I do feel a kind of happy atmosphere myself.

- The lyricist for the song “Sky” is H.U.B right~

YH: Yeah, until now, H.U.B has written alot of songs for us but most of the time H.U.B writes about the little happiness we feel in our daily lives and lyrics that are full with LOVE. This time round, the lyrics have become the real feelings of the male lead.

- In this song the B part (T/N: I think it means B Chord) is being dragged for quite a long time, who sings the low part~?

YC: Me and Yunho.

YH: This part is very hard~ We have to practice extra hard for the LIVE.

JJ: But in order to let everyone enjoy the song and to have a perfect harmony as well as the right atmosphere, we will work hard. There is a lot of meaning in this song, I hope everyone will enjoy it~

[TRANS] TaeYang Nylon Interview: The September 2008 Issue

A Portrait of Youth
Nakata’s firm face showing his physical strength and the tension he feels. The shyness and awkwardness we see in the designer Tom Brown’s boys. The innocent physical soundness we encounter in Bruce Webber’s pictures. Wearing his jeans as low as he possibly could, TaeYang had a face showing a mixture of vanity and naïveté that were typical of a young man of his age.

Interview by: JiUn Nah

Q: You seemed shy yet to enjoy the shoot.

A: Did I look OK? There were many styles I’d never tried before. The trench coat, for example.

Q: You’ve tried something unusual before. Last year you came to the MKMF Awards show in this very luxurious Balenciaga jacket, which created quite a buzz.

A: Ah, yes. I loved that jacket very much but my boss bought it (from me) (laugh).

Q: What’s your favorite style? It’s not an exaggeration to say that Big Bang is the first idol group that dresses well. On one sweltering day, I saw you shopping for clothes at a high-end multi-brand shop Daily Project in ChongDam-dong.

A: I like casual jackets and T-shirts. Mostly casual. Is it ok to mention brand names? Louis Vuitton and Dolce & Gabbana.

Q: Pricy stuff.

A: Not really. I like inexpensive ones too. I like American Apparel and many street brands. I also like a Japanese brand called Phenomenon. Most of the stuff we wear on TV are of Japanese brands. We call it “The Teddy Virus.” What Teddy wears and where Teddy shops for clothes outside Korea have a great influence on all of us.

Q: Do you voice your opinions when you choose what to wear on stage?

A: We talk a lot about our style concepts. I don’t go near anything that I think wouldn’t look good on me.

Q: Give me an example.

A: The long coat I just wore today. I felt like I was in my Dad’s clothes. I changed my mind a bit after the shoot, though.

Q: Suppose you could be a model in just one designer’s show. Which designer would that be?

A: This is the first time anybody asked me that. Mm…Dolce & Gabbana?

Q: So you like masculine and sexy styles?

A: It’s not that I like deep v-neck tops or enjoy walking around with lots of skin showing.

Q: Then what do you call it when you went topless in the Prayer video.

A: Oh, I mean clothes.

Q: You’re saying better topless than scanty clothes?

A: Haha. I don’t know. It’s just I feel embarrassed when I wear deep v-neck tops or anything like that.

Q: Is there any particular item that you’re dying to get?

A: I used to collect hats but I’m not so hot about them any longer. It’s summer now so I want to buy some cool shades. (Suddenly talking to the staff member trying to feed the puppy chocolate) Don’t give her chocolate! If you feed puppies chocolate, they could die.

Q: You just saved a puppy’s life. You’ve just concluded your activities for your first solo album. You’ve been showered with praises, like, “The heat from the sun (TaeYang) are melting us all.” How was it? Honestly speaking, didn’t you say to yourself, “Gee, I’m so good”?

A: Well, not really. Instead, I just wonder where the time went. The entire period feels so unreal. It just went so fast I haven’t had a chance to really “feel” what I was doing.

Q: You’re going back to Big Bang now. How does it feel? You must find it not entirely satisfying, I suspect?

A: Of course.

Q: Do you mean it in a sense that you got so much more to show us but haven’t had a chance to do that?

A: (Laugh) Well, it was my first (solo) album after all so I couldn’t find it entirely satisfactory. That’s what I find not entirely satisfying. But given the shortcomings, I think I worked pretty hard and finished it relatively well. I am relieved to go back to Big Bang. I feel the chest-tightening sense of tension a bit less now. I feel like I came back home after a long hard journey on my own.

Q: I listened to Big Bang’s second album but as it was the case with the first one, I could scarcely feel your presence.

A: I believe that’s my role in Big Bang. It’s not like I enjoy being unnoticed.

Q: Are you saying it’s all intentional?

A: I am not saying it’s intentional but that’s who I am. I don’t feel like hogging attention or trying to be noticed when I am in Big Bang. I must think of the team before me.

Q: Stop trying to be nice. It’s no fun.

A: I am not trying to be nice. Many people know Big Bang now and we have an influence of sorts in many ways, I believe. Now whatever I do, I think carefully and consider it from many different angles. In terms of music, I can’t just insist on doing what I want.

Q: Are you saying you don’t like Big Bang’s music?

A: No! No! Please don’t take it that way!

Q: I’m asking this because I read in many interviews that you’ve always had different thoughts when it comes to the music you wanted to do.

A: That’s true with all of us. Our fans will allow us to experiment of course but we have to keep in mind that there are people who would not like it if we step a bit further musically in certain directions.

Q: You mean you compromise?

A: Yes.

Q: Does your company tell you what to say and what not to say? Big Bang is an idol group. Do you practice for interviews?

A: No, we don’t. If we had to, we wouldn’t be able to say what’s on our minds.

Q: So you pour your guts out?

A: No. They just tell us to think before we speak. Sometimes we catch ourselves using expressions we use among ourselves on camera. They also tell us not to touch political subjects.

Q: How do you feel about interviews in general? Do you feel uncomfortable?

A: Not uncomfortable but sometimes I feel a bit awkward especially when they ask complicated questions or questions that I’ve heard one too many times.

Q: What’s your least favorite question?

A: Ones about girlfriends (that he has never had one). I swear I’ve heard that question over a thousand times since our debut.

Q: But thanks to that innocent boy image, you got more fans.

A: True.

Q: That’s the way it is. People expect innocence and pureness even from sexy pop stars. They are attracted to you because they find you so innocent and naive even though you sing, “never ever cheat on me even if I did.” I saw you in the cable show “Flimsy Blind Dates.” You couldn’t even look at the girl in the eye.

A: Well, I don’t know. Not having had a girlfriend - it’s not something that you should be proud of but people talk about it all the time. You know, I have plans of my own.

Q: You mean like a five-step plan to make a girlfriend?

A: No (laugh). I just feel that this is not the right time. I’m sure some people will see the gap between the real me and the innocent image of me and become disappointed if I meet a girl and then break up with her or something.

Q: If you meet a girl, would you tell us that you have a girlfriend?

A: I don’t know (laugh). Oh, I could tell you that without telling you who she is.

Q: Do you find it stressful to be a member of an idol group that is greatly affected by fans?

A: I don’t usually think about that. Also idol groups have changed quite a bit. Of course, idol groups are definitely different from others in terms of the extent of involvement of fans. We tend to think and weigh things more carefully.

Q: How long do you think you will stay with Big Bang?

A: For a long time. We won’t be able to work as a group non-stop as we do now but Big Bang will last a bit long. Of course as time passes, we will focus more on individual activities. We are together because of music and will remain together for quite a while as long as our musical orientation remains the same.

Q: You joined YG Entertainment and started to learn singing and dancing at the age of 13. How did you know what you wanted exactly? Did you know then that you would have to endure long hard years?

A: I don’t remember what I was thinking. I just loved music since I was very little but didn’t know exactly what it was that I wanted to do. Working as a child actor, I found it fun to perform in front of people and express things. But music suited me better than acting. I just thought it was a chance of a life time. When I met JinuSean, I just loved them so much. Even today, I can take difficult, demanding situations in stride because of what I’d gone through during those years. It was really difficult.

Q: What was?

A: The uncertainty. First I had to persuade my parents. My parents found it unacceptable that I wanted to do music. I didn’t know at the time. What it would be like. My parents didn’t understand why I wanted to become a trainee giving up normal school life. I finally had my way. I was so desperate.

Q: You were 13 and persuaded your parents about what you wanted to do with your life? How?

A: What could a 13-year old do? I cried a lot and refused to talk for days. Both my Mom and Dad worked so I used to sneak out to go to practice. I didn’t speak to my parents for two weeks.

Q: It wasn’t your mother who pushed you into acting?

A: When I was little, I stayed at my Mom’s sister’s house for quite a while. My cousins took acting lessons at the time, so I sort of joined them naturally. JinuSean had an audition because they needed a child actor who could act and I got the part. My Mom had been on my side up until the shooting of JinuSean’s music video but wasn’t so happy when I told her I wanted to give up acting and become a singer.

Q: How was the eight years you spent in YG Entertainment as a trainee? Did you have hope that you would “make it someday”?

A: As time went, I became more and more confident. If the opportunity had come along earlier, I would have gotten lazy and taken things for granted. As time passed, I felt more confident and determined.

Q: What was it that you loved so much that made the long wait worthwhile?

A: It was music. I loved music so much - R&B/hip-hop music. I also thought the hyung’s so cool. I just loved the way they dressed, the way they spoke and the music they did. Everything about them. Come to think of it, I’ve been deeply affected by all of those things. Singing and dancing…everything.

Q: Who’s your greatest influence so far? Was there anyone whose advice you took as absolute standards and who made you want to copy everything about him (or her), including tastes?

A: There were foreign artists but they were just images. People who had direct influence on me were of course the YG musicians. Sean, Teddy and Se7en. I fell in love with R&B/hip-hop because of Sean in the first place. I thought Teddy was really cool, a great musician. I listened to every word he said very carefully. Se7en is somebody I deeply admire not just as a musician but also as an individual.

Q: Unlike artists under other entertainment companies, you don’t appear on variety shows. The company doesn’t put pressure on you?

A: I feel uncomfortable appearing on variety shows. The company helps and encourages you if you are good at it, as in the case of DaeSung, but they don’t force you if you are not.

Q: Compared to other idol groups, Big Bang seems relatively free to do whatever you want to do. You guys have actually changed the way idol groups are perceived. Most of all, you dress the way you want.

A: I agree. We don’t do as we are told to do. When we make a decision, we think about it first and tell the company what we want.

Q: When you were making your solo EP, I heard that you and President Yang did not agree on what the concept of the album should be.

A: He knows me very well so he got some songs and provided overall direction for me. I am not saying I didn’t like the songs but there was something else I wanted. It was my solo album and I wanted to choose songs that could show people who I was and what I was all about. In the end, Mr. Yang let me do it my way.

Q: Please explain the difference in terms of music.

A: My first concern was the stage performance. I explained to Teddy that I wanted to create a dynamic and powerful stage performance. That’s how the song “Prayer” was made. Kush made “Make Love” for me because I told him I wanted a trendy R&B song. I consider “Look Only at Me” as a destiny. Sometimes you can’t quite fully explain what’s on your mind but the song written by Teddy was exactly what I wanted.

Q: Is it true that G-Dragon sang it first? There was a bit of controversy around the song.

A: The song wasn’t anybody’s – anyone could take it. But because of the lyrics, Teddy naturally didn’t think of me (laugh). He obviously thought of Jiyong. I didn’t know that Jiyong sang the song first when I told Teddy how badly I wanted the song.

Q: You might want to say sorry to him because the song did so well on the chart.

A: Not because it did well but because of the situation in which I got the song from Teddy.

Q: Regarding your favorite “Prayer,” some people say that it plagiarized from 2Pistols’ song.

A: I don’t think so. It all depends on how people who listen to the song interpret it and I don’t have anything to say to those people who believe so. It doesn’t bother me.

Q: Do you have any complex?

A: No, because I don’t think about complexes when I am on stage.

Q: But you think you are good-looking, don’t you?

A: No, I don’t’. I just think I look OK in my own way. No one really thinks I am good-looking anyway.

Q: Do you like the way you look?

A: Yes, I do (laugh). That’s why I can feel confident in front of the camera, taking pictures.

Q: You said you wanted to take pictures like a real man. Who’s your favorite male role model?

A: Michael Jordan. He is the best basketball player ever, and listening to what he says, especially his outlook on life, I can see that he is a very responsible person and a man of character because he’s simply the world’s best but still works very hard. (Pointing at his Jordan sneakers) Look at these. Maybe I should change my most favorite brand from Dolce & Gabbana to Jordan.

Q: What kind of man do you want to be?

A: Mm…a great dad?

Q: A great dad? You’re barely twenty now. Isn’t it a bit premature?

A: Well, dads have great influence on kids. I mean I’d like to work toward that goal. And as I said, my role model is Michael Jordan.

Q: What’s your father like? Whether you like it or not, the single biggest influence in a man’s life is his dad.

A: My Dad is a bit of a square. When my brother and I were little, he always told us to dress neatly and wear our hair short. I realized much later that not all families were like that. My Dad would probably not approve the way I dress and wear my hair now.

Q: Do you get self-conscious about what your Dad would think when you are on stage?

A: No, I don’t. I think my Dad would try to understand in his own way.

Q: Do you make a lot of money now?

A: Not really. No one makes money from selling records any more. Making a lot of money is not my priority.

Q: You’re young and ambitious now. But things may not be the same in 10 years. Big Bang may not be as popular as it is now. You may not be able to perform in front of audiences. Is there anything you can say for sure that will not change in 10 years?

A: Of course I hope Big Bang will still be here in 10 years but one thing I can say for sure that will not change in that time is that I will be doing music. Mm…Did I say anything out of line today?

[Trans]JaeJoong@Kindai May ‘09 Issue

THSK released their 4th Album [The Secret Code] on the 25th of March. This time we’ll be interviewing their lead vocal – Jaejoong. We ask about what he’s doing recently, the album, and many other questions!

*Jaejoong reading [Kindai] diligently* Ah, it’s Uno-san!

–That’s right. Ah, right. You’ve performed with AAA at A-Nation, right?
JJ: Yeah, I really liked performing with them cause they were all so nice and funny. Ah, I know this person! Ah, I see this person often in dramas! *talking to himself while reading*

–So, Jaejoong. Let’s begin. Since this is another Jaejoong solo interview, I hope to see more of Jaejoong’s charisma.
*Interviewer gets ignored as Jaejoong continues reading*

–Jaejoong-san! Were you listening?
JJ: You said “Since this is another Jaejoong solo interview, I hope to see more of Jaejoong’s charisma.”, right? *laughs*

–Ah, so you heard me!
JJ: I heard you. THSK are always good at listening.

—[THSK] and not [Jaejoong]? *laughs*
JJ: Umm~ which one.. Perhaps both *laughs* Because Junsu often doesn’t hear things. *laughs* What are you going to ask today?

—Things like ‘Have you grown taller?’ *laughs*
JJ: Hahaha. That’s very detailed questionnaire *laughs* I grew. About 1cm since debut. Although I don’t think I can grow taller anymore. Oh, and I grew heavier about a month ago so I started training again and my muscles started getting bigger. But because Japanese staff and fans said they don’t like a muscular Jaejoong, so I stopped training so vigorously.

— They said they didn’t like a muscular Jaejoong? *laughs*
JJ: Yeah, they said they didn’t like it *laughs*

— Hahaha. You said you trained very hard.
JJ: Yeah, I thought I would look cool so I trained hard but they said they didn’t like it. That’s so cruel, right? *laughs* They said it was fine for Yunho and Changmin to have muscles since they look manly. In Korea, they say that a muscular Jaejoong is handsome, but in Japan, for some reason, they said that my muscles don’t match my face….

–Hahaha. I guess it’s a matter of perspective. *laughs* NO matter how you look at it, Jaejoong has a prince-like face so if you have muscles it’s a little… When you just came to Japan, your hair was as long as your shoulders, right? You looked more androgynous then and you were wearing a tank top. When I saw you I went ‘wow’, I can still remember that *laughs*
JJ: I see. So you don’t like it too *sigh* I trained so hard everyday so I could match the sexy, manly feel of [Mirotic] and [Survivor] but everyone was like ‘Eh~Jaejoong-san, I don’t like that’. Jaejoong is so pitiable. *laughs* So, I’ll change. I’ll try my best not to bulk up in Japan *Laughs* But, my character is really different in both Japan and Korea. In Japan, I’m the Jaejoong of many smiles, but in Korea, I’m the cool Jaejoong. I sort of have a cold image in Korea.

—Which Jaejoong is closer to the real Jaejoong?
JJ: The Jaejoong in Japan? Recently, the Jaejoong in Korea is moving closer to the Jaejoong in Japan. In Korea, before we debuted, they said I would suit a cool image since I’m standing in the center, and so I worked hard towards creating that image. When we came to Japan, I wanted to present a more natural Jaejoong so I’ve shown you my true self on camera.

–I see. So, recently, Jaejoong has slowly been changing too.
JJ: Yeah. In Korea, I’ve noticed comments like ‘Surprisingly, Jaejoong can be funny’. *laughs*

— I see. That’s nice
JJ: Yeah, I’m happy

— You’ve been busy since debut, and especially so recently, right? Do you rest?
JJ: I went on break during Lunar New Year. For 10 days. I spent it really leisurely. To the point that I didn’t know what to do.

—Haha. What did you go?
JJ: Firstly, I went home, met my friends and family and had a good rest, then I went to China with Junsu and Yoochun

— Wasn’t it hard for you since you got recognized?
JJ: Yeah, it was a little tough *laughs* but it was really fun! And after I returned, I went drinking with friends again. After that, no matter how hard I thought, I didn’t have anything to do so I passed the days by thinking of what I should do

— Haha. That’s funny *laughs* I guess all your fans will like this side of you.
JJ: I guess *laughs* So I just watched TV at home, went to the health club, ate dinner alone….Because I had nothing to do, I started writing songs..*laughs* It’s not normal for us to have rest days.

—And yet you always talk about how you want rest days
JJ: Yeah, that’s right *laughs*

—Bet you wanted to go shopping.
JJ: Yeah, but because there are many people…. I wanted to shop when I was in Japan but once we arrived in Japan, our schedule was so packed that I couldn’t go. That’s such a shame

—Jaejoong, you really like clothes right? Didn’t you say you didn’t like skinny jeans a while ago? But you’ve been wearing them often recently.
JJ: Yeah, I fell in love with skinny jeans recently! I like wearing boots over that. This style is really fashionable in Japan, and I thought it was pretty cool so I tried it. At that time, Korea hadn’t caught on to this style so at first, I received reactions like ‘What’s that? Jaejoong looks like a girl’. The fashions in Japan and Korea are different but that’s interesting. This is related to the differences in image that I mentioned earlier. In Korea, I prefer wearing suits and the like to make myself look more mature but because I want to look younger in Japan, I wear casual fashion!

— What’s this difference about? *laughs* What’s the matter? (T/N: Japanese gag. Dou i-ukoto? The usual answer is ‘Sou i-u koto’ but if you say it quickly it becomes shyoyukoto)
JJ: Shyoyu koto! (Soy Sauce) I really like this gag *looks happy*

— ….. Having Junsu tell Oyaji gags is enough. Ah, that’s right. Your age is different in Korea and Japan right?
JJ: Yeah, in Korea, I’m already 25! But in Japan, I’m still 23!

— Last time you wanted to be an adult. Now you want to look younger.
JJ: ‘Cause I’ve become an uncle *laughs*

— *laughs* Have you become addicted to any Japanese food recently? Previously it was natto, and you even brought natto back to Korea to eat, didn’t you? *laughs*
JJ: Umm~ What’s that? Do you have one?
—Me? I do. Hoshiimo (T/N: dried sweet potato) *laughs* Do you know what that is? Ah, didn’t I give you a packet when I came in just now? *laughs*
JJ: Ah! I know that! I like it! We don’t have it in Korea! Our manager buys it from time to time and I fell in love with it after one bite… I really like it! It’s soft and chewy!

—-And what are most interested in recently?
JJ: Internet! Internet! Internet gaming. I’ve finally gotten addicted *laughs* I actually like gaming but I know I’ll get addicted once I start so I’ve been controlling myself but I still got addicted. That’s the thing all 5 of us will start doing once we get together *laughs* Once the 5 of us get together, we’ll turn on our notebooks and start. *laughs* It becomes just like an internet café. Junsu’s the most addicted. Last time, Junsu even used 2 computers to play *laughs* But thanks to gaming, our recording sessions aren’t as boring as what they used to be.

—Speaking of recording, your 4th album [The Secret Code] goes on sale on the 25th of March, right?
JJ: Yeah. It’s our 4th album already. This album is filled with THSK’s growth one year after our last album, [T]. You’ll experience many things from the time you’re born till now. And you’ll need a secret code to understand what that person has experienced. This album is a secret code to understanding THSK. It can also be used as a secret code.

— There’s a song Jaejoong wrote as well, right?
JJ: Yeah. It has [Wasurenaide] (T/N: Please don’t forget) from this year’s first single, a Triple A single [Bolero/Kiss the Baby Sky/ Wasurenaide] and I also wrote [9095].

—It’s a song about a fantasy new world. I think it’s a really pretty song.
JJ: Thank you. I did the arrangement myself. H.U.B wrote the lyrics. I wanted to write a song with a global perspective that tied in with the album’s view. Although we have many dance tracks this time, because we have dance tracks with different feel, I think we have a good balance and I believe it’s a album with a wide variety.

— I see. Songs like [Taxi] are nice too.
JJ: Of course it’s good! It’s a sad love song and while singing it, I felt kind of depressed. All 5 of us love it; be it dance tracks or ballads, I want to quickly sing them live! I think this album will be really great live so it’d be great if everyone could listen to this album a lot and come to our concerts! Besides singing tracks from our album, we’ll sing old songs too so please come! I’ll be waiting for you!
